Captain Geek's Page o' Stuff Wednesday, November 03, 2004: Well, it looks like it's over. Kerry has just conceded the election. Four more years of the biggest dumbass to sit in the Oval Office. I expect the draft to be started early next year. Taxes for everyone but the rich should start soon after that to pay for it. I am more afraid for our country and the world than I have ever been. And I've grown up in the era that had Reagan joke about outlawing the Soviet Union and the bombing beginning in five minutes. My friend Debbie and I think that every invasion America has started has been under a Republican administration. We haven't gone through the data to be sure. But everyone knows this invasion was started by a Republican. A Republican that has never served in combat. That has no practical military experience. Who does not read the papers. Or even listen to advisors that disagree with him. Or the military commanders who disagree with him. Or anyone who disagrees with him. We are not safer now thatn we were four years ago. Osama Bin Laden is alive and well and planning further attacks on Americans. 400 tons of explosives are unaccounted for in Iraq. Al-Queda is flocking to Iraq to kill American soldiers. Those soldiers are underequipped and being led by commanders who are more concerned with following the Commander-In-Chief's orders than in doing what they need to to win this invasion. Within the past week, another tape was received, and authenticated, from a terrorist with a disturbingly American accent saying that the next attack on American soil will be worse than 9/11. I am afraid. But, there is some glimmer of hope. With a draft, jobs will open up as people are sent overseas for extensive tours. There will be more flu shots available next year because so many will go without this year that a flu epidemic will devastate the population. And I believe that this administration will kill the Republican Party. There's no way they can find someone dumber than Bush to dupe the public. And if by some miracle he DOES get us out of Iraq with our dignity intact, the economy will kill the GOP's chances of getting another candidate in the White House. So hang on, folks. It's going to be a bumpy ride. 8-) Steve // 8:16 AM ______________________ Monday, September 20, 2004: What a weekend!!! 8-) Friday Went to Games Plus and got Arcane Adversaries. 8-) Went and found a pair of shoes that fit about as perfectly as possible. 8-) Went and saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. 8-) Went to Dreamlands Comics and picked up the ps238 TPB. 8-) Saturday Went to Yorktown. Picked up the first Outsiders TPB and the first Superman/Batman storyarc. Sunday Went to Dreamlands again for a Heroclix tourney, but the envoy said if he didn't get six players, the store didn't want him to run it. Which I think is just stupid on the part of the store and could get them yanked as a venue. Which means fewer people come into the store and fewer people think of them as a place to buy Heroclix. But the envoy felt sorry for those of us who did show up and gave us all an LE from all the extras he had. I got Querl Dox. 8-) So, I went to Pastimes and bought teh KC Wonder Woman fig. 8-) Then I went over to Toys R Us to look around. Found a Megablox Dragon set I didn't have. It was a Toys R Us exclusive marked $50 but was 50% off. 8-) Then I went to Borders. Found a new edition of Wild Cards II and the Llewellyn almanac for 2005. I also ordered an out of print book I've been looking for. 8-) And the Bears beat the Packers. 8-) I had a good weekend. Saturday Steve // 10:16 AM ______________________ Thursday, September 16, 2004: Well, for those of you interested, the interview went well. I got there early. Only had a little trouble finding the place. It's a little off the main road and the sign isn't visible from the best angles. The manager has two more people to interview, but I should hear something by the end of next week. The job doesn't pay nearly what I would like, but the hours would be such that a second job would be little problem. So, I keep looking just in case. Steve // 10:20 AM ______________________ Wednesday, September 15, 2004: Has it been a week already? 8-) No, it hasn't. But yesterday, I received a call from the store manager of the PetSmart I applied to. I go in today for an interview. 8-) Steve // 10:00 AM ______________________ Monday, September 13, 2004: Well, onto the next step in my latest attempt to find gainful employment. Today I had a phone interview for the Pet Trainer position at Pet Smart. I thought the interview went well. And the guy I spoke with said he's going to forward the results to the store manager of the store I'll be working at. I should here from him in seven to ten days. So another week of nail biting and filling out other applications. I'm just wondering if their benefits include pet health insurance. Woof. Steve // 1:19 PM ______________________ Friday, September 10, 2004: Okay, this could be interesting. I just applied to be a Pet Trainer at PetSmart. My qualifications? Well, I've gotten plenty of compliments on Annie's behavior from the other dog owers in my complex. And I've never attended a class with her. I just devote time to her. I established who was in charge from day one, but not in an abusive way. I just let her know that certain behaviors were not going to be allowed and that certain behaviors would be greatly rewarded. I don't overstuff her with treats. I just let her know she's a good dog when she does them. It's gotten to a point were certain behaviors are automatic for her. So, by this time next week, I could be helping others have well-trained and loving pets. And the possibility of that makes me feel real good. Steve // 11:52 AM ______________________ Sunday, September 05, 2004: Wow!!! Two blogs in one day. That has to be a record for me. I've just come back from spending the afternoon downtown with my family. We went to Millenium Park. Ooooo, big shiny jelly bean. But that's not why I'm blogging again. I am very disappointed in my mother. I thought she was smarter than this. The conversation over lunch turned to politics. This happens to be a subject near and dear to my heart since I want the current administration changed. I won't go into details of the conversation, but let me just say that my mother has claimed she will never vote for a Democrat and that the discussion was ended. I thought I had learned how to be open minded from her. I guess I picked it up on my own. Steve // 2:53 PM ______________________ Well, Friday, the transaction was completed. I got Galactus. For those of you NOT keeping track of this storyline, Galactus was this year's special available-only-at-conventions supersized HeroClix figure. He's big. He's heavy. He's 1800 points at full power. He's mine to command. And it only cost me $105. If you got lucky enough to get a winning raffle ticket for the opportunity to buy him from WizKids, he was only $75. The lowest I've seen him go for from dealers at cons is $225. So I got a bargain. The guy I bought him from gave me a deal. He had heard I wanted one. So he got a ticket and got lucky. He also bought enough other stuff to get the other special figures, Silver Surfer and Invisible Woman. All he asked from me was that I pay for what he bought. And he gave me the Silver Surfer and Invisible Woman too. Plus what he bought (four unopened DC Unleashed boosters.) The Silver Surfer and Invisible Woman have already gone to a friend. Now he owes me two uniques. I figured since SS and IW were going for $50 each, getting two uniques for each was fair. And I already owed him for one unique and he gave me one yesterday. I also pulled two Uniques from the Boosters, the Bat Sentry from Kingdom Come and the General. I needed the General, but the Bat Sentry is trade bait. But I know someone who might want it. I also picked up Heroes and Monsters: The Unofficial Companion to the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. No, not the movie. Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neil, sick and twisted individuals that they are, put a lot of Easter Eggs in the comics. Jess Revins, being even more sick and twisted, has put together a reference book on them. Well, this book only covers the first mini-series. Jess started this online just for fun. That's why he's sick and twisted. No one's paid him for this until now. But, it has inspired me. I now want to run my Uber-Champions campaign. The one were all the heroes and villains from the pulps until now lived and fought. I'm working on consolidating everything and coming up with the Campaign Bible. Plus, it gives me something to keep my mind off of being depressed about not having a job yet. I know that's going to change soon, but until it does, I have my geekiness to keep me occupied. 8-) Steve // 8:49 AM ______________________
